rare heart problems reported in young people vaccinated

Very rare cases of heart problems in adolescents or young adults vaccinated against Covid-19 have been reported this week by US health authorities, without the link with vaccination being established for the moment.

Reports of myocarditis, inflammation of the heart muscle, have been found in people who have received a messenger RNA vaccine like those developed by Pfizer / BioNTech or Moderna, noted the Centers for Disease Prevention and Control (CDC), the country’s main federal public health agency.

Most of them “appear to be benign”, they explained, saying they are monitoring the situation. “Relatively few” cases have been reported, according to the CDC, which did not specify the exact number or the ages of those affected. They were mainly detected in “adolescents and young adults”, within “four days after” the injection.

These myocarditis, which occur more often “after the second dose”, affect men more than women. The number of myocarditis reported does not currently exceed the normal rate in people of this age group, according to health authorities.
