Rapprochement between social partners on the subject of short-time work

The union and chamber of commerce have not yet agreed on the short-time working arrangements that will apply from September. Negotiations are still ongoing and results will be presented on Wednesday. According to the Chamber of Commerce, there is a “maximum agreement” that the future short-time working model for the sectors still severely affected must be as attractive as the current one.

“It would be irrational to worsen the model and thereby fuel the business-related separation of employees,” said Karlheinz Kopf, Secretary General of the Chamber of Commerce in a written statement to APA. You still need “an unbureaucratic and abuse-proof model that brings maximum support for companies and workers at the same time”.

The ÖGB sees the negotiations “on a constructive way”. The goal is to “keep as many jobs as possible and give those affected planning security”, the union said to the APA.

Trade unionists and Chamber of Commerce representatives have been working on a new short-time corona model for weeks. After agreement by the social partners, the federal government still has to agree. Recently it was said from circles of negotiators that the successor model to short-time work, which expires in September, should be less generous than the current one. The employer side is pushing for a training requirement for employees in times when there is no work due to short-time work. The employee representatives want 80 to 90 percent of the salary to be paid depending on the amount of earnings.
