Rapper Lil Wayne charged with illegal possession of weapons | NOW

Lil Wayne was formally charged on Tuesday with illegal possession of weapons in the US state of Florida. If convicted, he could potentially face a ten-year sentence, entertainment site reports TMZ.

Dwayne Michael Carter, the real name of the 38-year-old rapper, was previously convicted of a gun-related offense and is therefore not allowed to own weapons.

Carter’s gun was found in December 2019 when federal agents searched his private plane in Miami. He was on his way to California at the time. At the time, the agents allowed the rapper to travel on, but now he is still being charged.

Lil Wayne’s attorney Howard Srebnick says no TMZ that there is no reason to prosecute his client. “There is no evidence that he has ever used or threatened to use the weapon. There is no reason to believe that he is a dangerous person.”

The rapper is due to appear in court next month.
