Borderlands 4 Receives Console FOV Slider Response From Randy Pitchford
Randy Pitchford, CEO of Gearbox Entertainment, has addressed player concerns regarding the lack of a field of view (FOV) slider on console versions of Borderlands 4, stating that implementing one raises potential fairness issues within the game. The response comes amid community discussion about the limited visibility experienced by some players, particularly those on wider displays.
Pitchford explained his reasoning in a recent social media post, stating, “There’s some dreams I have where an FOV setting might affect fairness.” He elaborated that a wider FOV could potentially give players an unfair advantage by allowing them to see opponents more easily, disrupting the intended gameplay balance. This stance contrasts wiht the PC version of Borderlands 4, which does offer a FOV slider.
the absence of a FOV slider on consoles has sparked debate within the Borderlands community, with players arguing for increased customization options. While Gearbox has acknowledged the feedback, Pitchford’s comments suggest the studio is hesitant to implement the feature due to competitive balance concerns. Borderlands 4 launched on June 20, 2024, and has faced initial scrutiny regarding PC performance issues alongside the console FOV debate. Gearbox has released optimization guides and advised players to allow time for shader recompilation after adjusting graphics settings.
