Rallies against the “global security” law: demonstrations are running out of steam

No doubt for fear of seeing the demonstration against the proposed law “global security” degenerate like the previous week, an imposing cordon of police forces surrounded the Parisian procession on Saturday, December 12, under the gaze of department store customers. A few tense face-to-face meetings took place, as well as targeted arrests. The parade took place in relative calm.

“The more people there are, the better. This law must be withdrawn because it is liberticide”, says a Parisian protester. “As long as this law is not withdrawn, we will be there every Saturday if necessary”, slip another. In the capital, but also in Bordeaux (Gironde), Montpellier (Hérault) and Marseille (Bouches-du-Rhône), the demonstrators gathered for the fourth consecutive Saturday. The action of the Minister of the Interior and the methods of intervention of the police were notably targeted. In Paris, despite tensions at the end of the rally, no major outbursts were reported. 142 demonstrators were however arrested.
