Raja Koduri, Intel’s Head Architect, Announces Departure from the Company

After moving from AMD’s Radeon Technology Group to Intel five years ago, it’s now time for Raja Koduri to move on to new adventures.

Raja Koduri is a name many technology enthusiasts recognize. He has worked at companies such as AMD, Apple and most recently at Intel. Now both he and Intel CEO Pat Gelsinger have confirmed that Raja’s time at Intel has now come to an end. The next stop will be a new software company.

As previously mentioned, Raja Koduri left AMD and the Radeon Technology Group five years ago. There he helped oversee the development of graphics architectures such as Polaris, Vega and Navi. He then left AMD and shortly thereafter it was confirmed that Intel would be his next employer.

At Intel, Raja Koduri was first appointed as chief architect and then became one of the leaders of Intel’s graphics division Accelerated Computing Systems and Graphics. There he was a leading force in the development of the Arc Alchemist graphics architecture. With great probability, he also had a hand in the development of Alchemist’s sequels Battlemage and Celestial.

However, Intel’s graphics division was split late last year. This move saw Koduri move back to his previous position as chief architect and according to the company, he would then oversee the company’s new forays into CPU, GPU and AI.

After Intel, it will now be a position with a start-up company that focuses on software. Exactly what this will mean remains to be seen. At the time of writing, Raja Koduri has not confirmed exactly what the company will focus on. According to his Twitter post, he will share more information in the coming weeks.
