“Raising Awareness on Water-Related Issues at the Corum: 500 Schoolchildren and College Students Journey from New York to Montpellier”

This Friday, March 24, the Corum welcomed schoolchildren and college students from Montpellier and the surrounding area for the awareness day “From New York to Montpellier, all mobilized for sustainable water”. The opportunity to draw their attention to water-related issues through fun and entertaining workshops.

“Be an agent of change”, repeats Clémence Decroocq, the organizer. IciReward, the Unesco center dedicated to water, held this Friday, March 24, an awareness day for schoolchildren and college students in Metropolitan France and Occitanie. Different workshops have been set up at the Corum: photo exhibitions, models, water fresco, or even experimental and artistic workshops. All on various themes but always related to this resource: groundwater contamination, water density, infiltration, capillarity, etc. In total, nearly 500 students took part in the day. “Schoolchildren are the citizens of tomorrow, they are the ones who will build the future. It is never too early to make them aware of water-related issues”explains Clémence Decroocq.

Learn while having fun

More than twenty different workshops brought together schoolchildren and college students from CP to 3e in small groups. In front of the animators, scientists and Master’s students in Water Science from the University of Montpellier who run the stands, the children listen, experiment and learn with a smile. For Romane, 11 years old, in class of 6e at the Frédéric-Bazille college, in Castelnau-le-Lez, this day was an opportunity to make a small oil lamp: “I learn more than in class, if we could have that every day, that would be so cool! It’s fun, it’s playful, it’s great. Learning like that is the future! “. At 6:30 p.m., the day ended with a round table open to all on the major challenges to come related to water, constraints and levers for action.
