Dubai, United Arab Emirates (CNN) – Raghad, the daughter of former Iraqi President Saddam Hussein, responded to what is being circulated on social media about her position on the demonstrations called by Muqtada al-Sadr, the leader of the Shiite Sadrist movement in Iraq.
This came in a tweet by Raghad, in which she posted an image from a post in which he stated: “The word of Raghad Saddam Hussein supports the demonstrations of Mr. Muqtada..” She commented: “Fake and incorrect news.”
It is reported that al-Sadr had called for the dissolution of parliament and the holding of early elections, noting that his demands were a “peaceful revolutionary democratic process”, after his supporters’ sit-in at the parliament headquarters inside the fortified Green Zone in the capital, Baghdad.
The Sadrist movement does not have a parliamentary bloc after its resignation in June, yet it is still able to mobilize the street and its supporters.
