Łukasz Jachimiak: During the first set I asked if you were nervous and I got the answer: “No. Class difference”. Have you really been calm all the time that Iga will win?
Agnieszka Radwanska: The beginning by Iga was a bit nervous, but fortunately she dealt with it quickly. She found her rhythm, entered a high level and coped much better in difficult, windy conditions. Was I nervous today? No, I wasn’t nervous, because Iga quickly mastered the situation and as soon as she adapted to the conditions, she reached a level that was unattainable for Trevisan. There were no great emotions. Was there any element that particularly helped Iga to deal with the situation?
– She was definitely hitting the ball harder. With more rotation, at the right angle, with the right depth. All this made the Italian girl have a lot of problems. She tried, she fought, but she had nothing to oppose Iga. The ease, freedom with which Iga hits the ball from the end line is her amazing weapon. This is what made the biggest difference in these tough, windy conditions.
Iga was the favorite of the quarter-finals and she fulfilled this role perfectly. Now she will be the favorite of the semi-finals with Nadia Podoroska. Do you expect a match similar to the one against Trevisan?
– Honestly, I don’t know Podoroska. It is unknown to me, because I was able to see her only in a few games of this tournament. But the main thing is not who will stand on the other side of the net. It is certain that Iga will feel very emotional. This is the semi-final, the stakes are growing. But with each subsequent game of Iga the stakes increase, and she does not do anything about it, she walks through the next obstacles with a dry foot. If Iga maintains her level, whoever does not stand on the other side of the net will be in serious trouble.
How do you watch your compatriot in matches of this rank? Do you feel well as a fan?
– It’s always nice to watch tennis at the level that Igra plays in Paris. And when a fellow countryman plays like that, the pleasure is double. I keep my fingers crossed for Iga and I hope that he will keep this level until the end of the tournament. It presents an admirable game. As for me, you know roles change. Now I am in the role of a fan and I am glad that I have initiated a new era of Polish tennis. I showed that you can play with the best. I have been watched over the years, and now I can watch others and I am very happy that there is no emptiness after me, that I can cheer on tennis players from our country who compete at the highest level. Iga in Paris just goes crazy. And I hope others will join her soon.
