Bernhard Schär grew up in Herzogenbuchsee in the canton of Bern, studied mathematics and geography, and then worked as a teacher in Oberaargau for more than ten years. The almost 65-year-old, who now lives with his family in Küngoldingen in Aargau, is better known for his distinctive voice. For more than 33 years he reported on the Olympic Games, ski races and tennis Grand Slam tournaments for Radio SRF. He says: “I’m still motivated to drive through the Gubrist today as I was on my first day at work. Every broadcast is a joy. Because this medium is tailored to me: fast. direct, uncomplicated. ” He never wanted to watch television. “Berni”, as everyone calls him, says: “Why should I keep my head in the camera when my voice is my strength?
