Radeon RX 7700 XT: 8 GB, PCIe 5.0 × 8, power up to Radeon RX 6900 XT, price up to $ 500

The graphics portfolio built on the RDNA 3 architecture will be composed of at least three chips. At least two will come out with certainty this year; according to some sources, three are planned for this year. The most affordable, Navi 33, will differ from the more expensive ones by the monolithic design and use of a purely 6nm TSMC process. The release is expected around October (apparently after the release of Nvidia Lovelacewhich so far looks like September).

Kernel Navi 33which in the highest configuration should (or could) bear the designation Radeon RX 7700 XT, will target the mainstream, but while maintaining the performance of current models built on Navi 21 (Radeon RX 6900 XT, RX 6800 XT). In 1080p it should have perhaps even higher performance, in 1440p comparable and in 4k lower. It can be expected to target 1440p.

According to the MLID YouTube channel, the core should reach an area of 360-460 mm2, with the author considering a probable range of 360-410 mm2. These dimensions probably won’t be far from reality: If we take the current dimensions Navi 21, subtract half of the memory interface, half of the memory controller, external Infinity Fabric interface, half of the PCIe interface and reduce the rest to 6nm process, we get about 420 mm². If we subtract 1024 stream processors (some sources talked about 4096 stream processors instead of 5120, but we’ll go back to that) we go up to 390 mm².

These are, of course, rough estimates, the number of ROPs is not known (whether 128 of them will remain or AMD will reduce the number), whether the ratio between stream processors and texturing units will remain at the current value, whether Infinity Cache will be 128MB, etc.

There is also a certain snag in the number of stream processors. After 5120 and 4096, the MLID no longer comments on this metric, as the kernel layout should have changed so much that the unit ratios in the function blocks may not be the same as in previous generations.

According to MLID, AMD targeted the TDP at around 200 watts and is currently expected to range from 180-230 watts. I would remind you that other sources have been talking about targets closer to the upper limit of this range. The Radeon RX 6700 XT was set to just 230 watts and with respect to power Navi 33 at the level of the Radeon RX 6900 XT (practically in the absence of improvements on the production process side), values below 200 watts would be essentially a miracle.

Navi 33 / Radeon RX 7700 XT should be equipped with a PCIe 5.0 × 8 interface, which means the same data throughput as the Navi 21 / Radeon RX 6900 XT s PCIe 4.0 ×16.
