For many years now, AMD supporters have been pleased with how the processors of this brand confidently crowd out competitor products in the assortment of a well-known German store. Now this phenomenon can be transferred to some video cards of a certain price category. In particular, last year in Germany the Radeon RX 5700 XT turned out to be several times more popular than the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, although on the world market the advantage is clearly on the side of NVIDIA.

Resource 3DCenter decided to use the open statistics of sales of video cards, which is shared by the German online store MindFactory.de. The selection included three GeForce RTX SUPER series video cards that debuted in July, as well as two “first-born” Navi family cards: the Radeon RX 5700 XT and Radeon RX 5700 video cards. AMD initially compared the performance of the Radeon RX 5700 XT and the GeForce RTX 2070 in their marketing materials , but the latter was fired, and the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER, reinforced with eight gigabytes of memory, appeared in the arena. Equally important, both video cards started from the same price point – $ 399.

The Radeon RX 5700 series video cards entered the market in early July, which allows them to be compared with NVIDIA SUPER series products in a comparable store presence interval. The phenomenon of German retail in this case is “fractional inversion”. While all over the world, NVIDIA video cards dominate in the number of copies sold in the proportion of about 70: 30, in Germany the Radeon RX 5700 XT outperforms the GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER in popularity in about the same ratio. From July to the end of 2019, the MindFactory store sold 12,590 Radeon RX 5700 XT graphics cards and only 5,315 GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER graphics cards. In fact, the former were 2.4 times more popular!
In general, if we compare the market shares of all the “July debutants” in a single online store in Germany, NVIDIA will still outweigh the ratio of approximately “55:45”, since the GeForce RTX 2070 SUPER alone managed to disperse in a run of 13,175 copies by the end of the year and it’s $ 100 more expensive than the Radeon RX 5700 XT. Obviously, AMD suffers from a limited range of products – it has not had any new products in the upper price range for a long time, and the February Radeon VII very soon turned into a “ghost”, since it is only nominally present on the market. The good news is that in early January, AMD CEO Lisa Su promised that a “large” Navi graphics processor would be unveiled this year.
It is not necessary to consider that with positioning of own video cards at NVIDIA everything is fine. If we take the “regular” GeForce RTX 2060 that did not fall into the sample without the SUPER suffix and with 6 GB of memory, then from January 7 to the end of 2019, it was sold by the indicated store in the amount of 6,445 units. A successor with 8 GB of memory named GeForce RTX 2060 SUPER from July 2 to the end of the year found 5,135 owners among the customers of this store. In other words, the updated video card sold much better, and this is probably due to the increased amount of memory.
