Cowboys Acquire Quinnen williams, Reuniting Him with Former Jets Coach
FRISCO, TX – The dallas Cowboys have bolstered their defensive line with the acquisition of defensive tackle Quinnen Williams in a trade with the New York Jets, the teams announced Tuesday. The move reunites Williams with defensive line coach Joe Roberts, who previously held the same position with the Jets.Dallas sent a 2026 seventh-round pick to New York in the deal.
The Jets’ decision to trade Williams signals a shift toward rebuilding,as highlighted in an ESPN report detailing their activity at the trade deadline. For the Cowboys, the addition of the 25-year-old Williams provides a significant upgrade to their interior defensive pressure and a familiar face for Roberts to work with.
Williams, a frist-round pick (No. 3 overall) by the Jets in 2019, has consistently been a disruptive force, recording 15.5 sacks over the past two seasons. He expressed excitement about joining the Cowboys organization. “I didn’t want 16,” Williams said regarding his jersey number selection. “The equipment guys were telling me you might as well try 9… I’m trying to find somthing that’s close to me about 9 but not really. I didn’t wear 9.” He added that his favorite numbers in the past were 4 and 25.
Roberts served as the Jets’ defensive line coach from 2021-2023, playing a key role in Williams’ development. His familiarity with Williams’ skillset is expected to accelerate the integration process and maximize his impact on the Cowboys’ defense.
In a separate transaction announced tuesday, the Cowboys also acquired linebacker Logan Wilson from the cincinnati Bengals for a 2026 seventh-round pick. Wilson, nicknamed “Cowboy” during his time at Wyoming, remarked, “It’s like I’m going from being a Cowboy, then going to Cincy and then coming back to be another Cowboy. It’s almost pretty surreal. It’s awesome.” Since 2020, Wilson has recorded 11 interceptions, tied for the most among NFL linebackers with tremaine Edmunds. Cowboys linebackers coach Dave Borgonzi emphasized Wilson’s ability to generate turnovers, stating, “The first rule of any defensive system is to get the ball back to your offense… That’s what he’s shown in the past and hopefully he can bring that here.”
