Quick Tips Before Investing in Unicorn Stocks

Merdeka.com – A number of unicorn companies will become players on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Conditions attract investors to become one of the shareholders.

But before that, there are several things that investors must understand before holding shares of a number of companies with a valuation of more than USD 1 billion.

“We have to be careful before buying unicorn shares. If we decide to go into IPO shares, especially unicorns, the potential for fluctuations is very high. Not only unicorn stocks, investors also have to prepare large funds according to the consequences,” said Coffeemeetstock CEO Theo Derick in Jakarta, Thursday (2/9).

According to him, the presence of unicorn and even decacorn companies is an opportunity for capital market investors to invest in unicorn stocks. Moreover, the phenomenon of the Initial Public Offering (IPO) of unicorn companies is predicted to develop in the future.

However, investors must continue to deepen their literacy and education related to the capital market before investing in these unicorn stocks.

He explained that unicorn companies have a different approach from other companies that have been listed on the Indonesia Stock Exchange (IDX). Digital technology companies see future prospects and growth.

Company Prospectus

For this reason, Theo added, before buying unicorn company shares, retail investors can still view the company’s prospectus on the IDX website. In addition, tactically retail investors can make budget adjustments of around 10-20 percent of investment funds to learn and see developments and support digital technology companies in Indonesia.

“After the budget funds are available, then look at the company’s performance in a year. After the company’s financial statements are announced, it can be continued with an assessment of how the company manages the IPO proceeds, whether to increase investment or not,” he said.

Previously, on Tuesday (10/8), the Financial Services Authority (OJK) stated that several startup companies with unicorn and decacorn status in the near future will conduct IPOs on the Indonesia Stock Exchange.

“With the entry of unicorns and decacorns into the domestic stock exchange, it will certainly have the potential to increase the market cap of issuers on the IDX and attract more investors, including foreign investors. The entry of these startup companies is also predicted to stimulate stock trading on the domestic exchange,” said Hoesen.
