Kent, according to ZN.UA, can come to Kiev during Queen’s absence, or maybe until an ambassador is appointed. According to media reports, the new ambassador is likely to be appointed in October-November this year.
The interlocutors of the publication expect that if Kent even for a short time heads the diplomatic mission, the fight against corruption in Ukraine will receive a new significant impetus and reach new depths.
Kent worked at the US Embassy in Kiev from 2004-2007 and from 2015-2018. In the last cadence, he held the post of deputy head of the diplomatic mission. A diplomat in Ukraine promoted the creation of anti-corruption bodies.
He speaks fluent Ukrainian and Russian, “He knows all the ins and outs of all influential and wealthy people in Ukraine, and is also well-versed not only in the surface, but also in the underwater currents of Ukrainian political and economic life,” writes ZN.UA.
Queen replaced in January 2020 William Taylor, who served as Chargé d’Affaires of the United States from May 18, 2019. Taylor arrived in Ukraine after resignation of the ambassador Marie Jovanovitch. Under American law, the term of office of an interim political office must not exceed 200 days.
