Queen Mathilde distributes parcels to the homeless accompanied by Princess Eleonore, a rare initiative (video)

It is exceptional to see the Queen accompanied by her daughter during her public activities.

ATwhen King Philippe visited a police station in Saint-Servais In the province of Namur, Queen Mathilde and Princess Eleonore went on Thursday afternoon to the homeless restaurant Kamiano, run by the community of Catholic faithful of Sant ’Egidio in Brussels. Due to the coronavirus crisis, it now offers take-out packages. The queen and princess spoke to people in precarious situations and participated in the distribution.

Queen Mathilde had already visited Kamiano’s headquarters in Antwerp last year.

On Thursday, she took her youngest daughter, Princess Eleonore, to the restaurant for the homeless located in the center of Brussels. A rather exceptional initiative as it is rare that sovereigns are accompanied by their children during their activities. The 12-year-old princess had made a cake for the occasion, which she shared with those present.

Since the start of the health crisis, the demand for support has risen sharply, said community spokesman Jan de Volder. The restaurant now offers meals twice a week, Monday and Thursday evenings. Between 80 and 100 people benefit each time. Although it is no longer possible to eat indoors, some tables have been set up in the courtyard.

The Queen had a few words to underline the courage of the vulnerable. She also offered them handmade protective masks.
