And the St. George Chapel was also kept a distance. That made the queen sit all alone when she said goodbye to her husband. The rows in front and behind her were empty. Two empty spaces had been left between her and Prince Andrew. Attendees were allowed to sit next to their partner. Prince Charles sat next to his wife Camilla, Prince William next to his wife Kate Middleton.

As the queen sat alone, dressed in black and wearing a mouth mask, she appeared lonely and gloomy to many people. “Seeing the Queen sitting alone with her head bowed is heartbreaking,” tweeted British journalist Dan Whitehead.
The image will be recognizable to many people. The corona pandemic forced people around the world to say goodbye to deceased loved ones in dire circumstances. “This very moving image of the Queen sitting alone will undoubtedly become one of the pictures of the pandemic,” said journalist Lewis Goodall on Twitter.
Queen Elizabeth was married to Prince Philip for no less than 73 years. She will turn 95 on Wednesday.
