Queen Elizabeth in mourning – lost close friend

2021 has been a tough year for most, but for Queen Elizabeth (95) has brought with it several great sorrows. As is well known, her husband of 73 years, Prince Philip, died this summer – at the age of 99.

Now she has also lost one of her closest friends. The Independent writes that the Duchess of Grafton, Ann Fortune Fitzroy, died Friday, 101 years old.

The Duchess held the title of Overhoffmesterinne for the Queen. This means that she was responsible for the court ladies. She has been by the Queen’s side throughout her reign, which turns 70 next year.

The queen is also the godmother of Fitzroy’s second daughter. In all, the Chief Justice had five children with her husband, the Duke of Grafton, Hugh Fitzroy.

In 1980 she was awarded the title of Grand Cross Lady of the Order of Victoria, for her service of the monarch.

It’s not just the husband and girlfriend the queen has lost so far this year. After her husband was hospitalized in February, the queen received two puppies as a gift from her son, Prince Andrew. In May, the one who had been named Fergus died.
