Quebec gives the green light to festivals and events

After closed public places, Québec is now allowing outdoor gatherings of a maximum of 250 people for festivals and outdoor events.

Tourism Minister Caroline Proulx announced on Wednesday this new relaxation in health measures aimed at controlling the spread of COVID-19, during its passage in Rivière-du-Loup.

Since last Monday, the number of people admitted to an indoor public place has increased from 50 to 250. Performance halls, cinemas, places of worship and other large halls have thus been able to resume their activities, with certain restrictions.

The limit of 250 people for outdoor gatherings was also “strongly recommended”. However, Quebec still prohibited the holding of festivals and other major events, at least until August 31.

According to Minister Proulx, this new relaxation is “an important first step for the restart of festivals and events”.

However, the organizers will have to make sure to put in place health measures to prevent the spread of the virus. Thus, participants must be able to maintain a distance of two meters between them, and entrances and exits must be controlled to ensure that the maximum number of 250 people is respected at all times. In addition, the organizers will have to set up waiting areas if the event has more than one site.

In Quebec City, we note that this new measure will also make it easier to hold sports tournaments for young people, which can attract crowds of parents in the stands and on the sidelines.

It should be noted that gatherings in a private place, indoors or outdoors, remain limited to a maximum of ten people.
