Quarantine or test will be required upon arrival from most countries. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs will change the travel traffic light

The only “green” country in Europe will be the Vatican at the new travel traffic light. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs adjusted its risk assessment of states according to agreed EU rules, as countries with a low risk of infection re-evaluate only those that had less than 25 new cases per hundred thousand inhabitants in the last two weeks and the share of positive tests in the total number was below four. percent.

From non-European countries, you can travel to the Czech Republic without tests or quarantine from Singapore, Japan, South Korea, New Zealand, Thailand and Australia. No quarantine or covid-19 test will be required upon arrival from these states.

Quarantine and covid test

The Czechia then considers medium-risk all countries where there have been fewer than 250 cases of coronavirus per 100,000 population in the last two weeks, or have a share of positive tests of over four percent.

It will be possible to travel to or from these countries, but foreign workers will be required to submit a negative test upon arrival. This rule does not apply to commuters. As of Monday, only one of the neighboring countries, namely Germany, will fall into the category of medium-risk countries. These will include Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Sweden, Finland, Norway, Iceland, Denmark, Greece and Cyprus.

States with a high risk of infection are considered to be those where over 250 new cases of covid-19 have been added per 100,000 in the last fortnight. These will be most European countries, including Poland, Austria and Slovakia. Almost all cross-border contact with them will be conditional on subsequent quarantine or testing, upon return they will also need to fill in a form for a hygiene station. Exceptions will be commuters or pupils and students when moving regularly to a certain country.

However, limited travel to nearby countries will be possible, because according to Minister Tomáš Petříček (ČSSD), there will be another exception allowing a maximum of twelve-hour travel across borders without further restrictions.

Similar restrictions have already been imposed on the Czech Republic by Germany, Austria and Slovakia – a negative test is required to travel to these three neighboring countries, with some exceptions, without which it is necessary to undergo quarantine. Due to the measures announced abroad, twelve-hour cross-border trips without a test are practically only possible in Poland or Saxony, which also allows passengers from risky countries, including the Czechia, to stay in its territory for up to 24 hours.

Until now, the Ministry of Foreign Affairs has used a different methodology for determining the risk of infection in individual countries and has not changed traffic lights for a long time. Most of the EU was green except Spain, which was red. The Ministry of Foreign Affairs also considered most non-EU European countries – Ukraine, Serbia, Albania and Russia – to be risky countries.

The new version of the travel traffic light will be effective from Monday, so on weekends travel to most countries from the Czech side will still be without restrictions. In the coming weeks, the ministry plans to update the traffic lights every Friday with effect from the following Monday, added Deputy Minister Martin Smolek.
