Quarantine options: Drive-in voting and special constituencies

One option is drive-in voting, where people will vote from a motor vehicle at special stations. It should be in all districts, ie in 78 places. They will be supervised by three soldiers and a recorder.

However, if the voter does not have a car, for example, a special election commission will probably come at his request. “She will arrive at her place of residence and, using all protective means, she will then be able to be recalled to a special urn,” the head of the Ministry of the Interior explained.

The last option is special constituencies. These would be set up, for example, in nursing homes or care facilities, where all clients are quarantined.

500 extra crowns for members of commissions

Hamáček originally designed the so-called proxy voting. In such a case, the vote would take place through a representative who would make the election as a quarantined person. However, the opposition did not agree with such a possibility.

These three options for quarantine elections should be discussed by the Chamber of Deputies on 19 August, in a state of legislative emergency. The Senate should comment on this immediately. As a result, these alternatives should go through the legislative process by the end of August.

The topic of the meeting was also to increase the contribution for members of election commissions. “We agreed to increase the contribution for members of election commissions by 500 crowns, ie to 2,300. We will also reward those who will work in special election commissions,” the minister said.

A special team to Beirut

He also commented briefly on Tuesday’s explosion in Beirut, where the Czech Republic will send a rescue team on Wednesday afternoon.

“Lebanon is a country that is not able to handle this situation on its own. Intensive communication with the Lebanese side about what the Czech Republic could offer took place overnight, ”said Hamáček.
