Qualcomm confirms it can still ship Snapdragon chips to Huawei even after new US ban

A few days ago, a new report revealed that the United States government has made its ban on Huawei even stricter. The report claims that the United States has closed all licenses applied by companies in order to be able to trade with Huawei. And this decision also affected the supply of Qualcomm technologies to Huawei, according to reports.

Qualcomm said it could still ship Snapdragon chips to Huawei

Qualcomm, on the other hand, came out to clear things up on this. It indicates that the new changes made by the US government do not affect its supply to Huawei.

Alex Rogers, president of Qualcomm Technology Licensing (QTL) and Global Affairs made the statement. He made the statement during the first quarter 2023 earnings call. According to Rogers, recent changes from the U.S. Department of Commerce remain unknown to Qualcomm. Therefore, the company sees no significant impact of the new changes on its shipment to Huawei.

“So I don’t think it’s fair to characterize it as the latest restrictions on Huawei. What we’ve seen in our reporting, the effect of Commerce considering not issuing new licenses takes precedence. And we haven’t heard from Commerce itself. said Rogers.

He went ahead to explain further by saying that Qualcomm had already had a license for quite some time. This license allows them to ship 4G chips and WiFi chips to Huawei. The United States issued the license after confirming that the chips posed no threat to national security.

“These will continue for a number of years and so under these licenses we don’t see any impact,” Rogers added.

This news is surely a great relief for Huawei and its fans around the world. The reason is that it erases previous reports that claimed that the US government has stepped up its ban on Huawei by banning all 4G chips, Wi-Fi 6 and 7 chips as well as AI chips. Muflier Huawei

Huawei will launch flagship phones with Qualcomm Snapdragon chips this year

Huawei plans to launch three new flagship devices this year. These include the Huawei P60 series, the Mate 60 series as well as the latest foldable Huawei, the Mate X3. All of these smartphones are designed to use Snapdragon chips.

For now, the best thing Huawei can do to avoid a dead end is to pile on a very large amount of Qualcomm chips. Enough to handle all the smartphones they plan to launch in 2023. As it stands, Qualcomm still has the license to ship to Huawei.
