Qualcomm earlier announced a new generation of high-end 5G modem “Snapdragon X65” and a lower maximum rate of “X62”. It is estimated that it will be available as soon as the end of this year and appear in terminal devices.
Among them, the flagship Snapdragon X65 has the fastest load speed of 10Gbps, which can support the current fastest 5G network speed. At the same time, it focuses on a new generation of millimeter wave antenna modules, scalable architecture, and can cover millimeter wave and Sub-6GHz global major Frequency bands have also been upgraded in energy consumption management.
Qualcomm also brings an AI mechanism that has been developed for more than ten years on the X65 chip, which supports functions including more accurate judgment of the user’s handheld position to increase antenna efficiency, signal coverage and increase battery life.
This chip is expected to use Samsung’s 5nm foundry process, but the version for the new generation of iPhone is reported to use TSMC’s 5nm process. It is estimated that the iPhone 13 launched by Apple this year will still use the X60 chip of the previous generation, and it will not use the X65 this time until 2022.
As for the simultaneous launch of the X62 chip, it has a network speed of up to 4.4Gbps, but the pricing will also be much lower, for use by cheaper 5G models.
