The Artemio Franchi of Florence is preparing to host another evening with strong blue hues. The National Women’s team today (17.30) will challenge Israel in the stadium where almost three years ago they celebrated their qualification for the French World Cup. The competition changes, but the goal is always the same: to win and conquer the pass for the European Championship to be held in the summer of 2022 in England.
The premises, in the weeks preceding this fundamental match, were different and somewhat confused, given that it was thought that Italy – to be among the best runners-up and qualify for the final phase of EURO 2022 without going through the dreaded play-offs – would have to beat Israel with six goals. But the scenario, thanks to the success of Finland against Portugal (Group E), has totally changed: for the Italians it will be enough to win by scoring at least two goals.
In short, the fate of the national team is more than ever in the hands and feet of Milena Bertolini’s girls, against a tough and aggressive opponent, but in a certainly less difficult situation. “We have to win at all costs and therefore there is a bit of pressure – said the coach at a press conference – to continue our growth path it is essential to know how to manage these pressures. In these days we have worked well, with enthusiasm and attention, studying the opponent’s characteristics and focusing on our strengths. The girls did their best, we are ready for this appointment ”. Against the Israelis, Alia Guagni will be missing, forced to renounce the call-up again due to an injury. “I’m sorry for Alia, she is one of the strongest players we have and we know how much she cares about the blue jersey.
