Qantas asks managers to work as baggage handlers | Abroad

Just like in Europe, the sector is struggling with personnel shortages. Many jobs in aviation were cut during the corona pandemic, but now that demand is picking up, it is difficult to find enough staff. The Qantas CEO also refers in an email to the British BBC to more absences due to the flu and COVID-19.

The managers are asked to load and unload luggage from the planes, and to drive the luggage to and from the tarmac for three or five days a week. They will be enabled in the shift system.
Qantas was one of the worst affected airlines during the coronavirus pandemic, as Australia imposed strict quarantine measures and kept its borders closed for months. But now tourism has restarted, with passengers complaining about lost luggage or delays.
