Mundipharma Indonesia delivered the latest update on the effectiveness of PVP-I against the SARS CoV-2 virus that causes COVID-19. Based on the results of laboratory studies (in vitro) with the BSL-3 standard by Duke-National University Singapore, PVP-I effectively kills 99.99% of SARS CoV-2 virus within 30 seconds. Meanwhile, according to the results of laboratory tests by the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research and Education Center (TIDREC), BETADINE® Mouthwash and Gargle (PVP-I concentration of 1%) proved capable of killing 99.999% of SARS CoV-2 virus in just 15 seconds. With this latest finding, it is hoped that it can help provide extra protection to the community in the context of prevention, especially health workers who are at high risk of COVID-19 cross-infection.
The PVP-I study by Duke-National University Singapore was conducted on BETADINE Antiseptic Solution (10% PVP-I concentration), BETADINE Antiseptic Skin Cleanser (7.5% PVP-I concentration), BETADINE Mouthwash and Gargle (PVP-1 concentration) %), and BETADINE Throat Spray (PVP-I concentration 0.45). While the latest findings by the Tropical Infectious Diseases Research and Education Center (TIDREC) show a very strong virucidal ability in BETADINE Mouthwash and Gargle products (PVP-I concentration of 1%). The results of this study have even been recognized by the British Dental Journal (BDJ) and were published as a journal by Springer Nature on behalf of the British Dental Association on 26 June.
In addition, recommendations for using PVP-I for preventing and breaking the COVID-19 infection chain have also been recommended in 4 other medical journals.
In addition to being proven effective against SARS-CoV-2, PVP-I has also been proven to be in vitro effective against corona viruses that caused the SARS-CoV outbreak 2002-2003 and MERS-CoV 2012-2013.
