The videos taken by motorists are impressive. A major fire broke out on Tuesday April 6, 2021 in Issoire (Puy-de-Dôme) in a waste sorting and recycling center, some of which are chemical and dangerous.
The fire broke out in the early afternoon, around 3 p.m., and a huge gray smoke immediately arose and was seen for miles around.

Access to the site has been closed, traffic slowed down. Exit 12 of the A75 motorway has been closed.
Many firefighters are on site to try to contain the fire. This recycling and sorting company includes different types of waste on its site.

Some are classified as non-hazardous waste: cardboard, paper, wood, glass, scrap metal, metals, etc. On the other hand, others are classified as hazardous: aerosols, asbestos, batteries, paints, glues, used oils.
On his website, the company specifies that some of them are “a real source of pollution for the environment” and must be the subject of “appropriate care”.

Among the waste classified as hazardous by this company, there are also “laboratory chemicals” which the company specifies that they are “subject to dedicated regulations because of the risk they represent for health and the environment” .
Residents are invited by the Puy-de-Dôme prefecture to stay at home and keep the windows closed.
