Putin Visits 2 Ex-Soviet Countries Before Meeting Jokowi

President Russia Vladimir Putin scheduled to make a visit to the two countries of the former Soviet Union this week, before meeting with the President Indonesia Joko Widodo (Jokowi) in Moscow. It will be Putin’s first overseas visit since ordering military invasion of Ukraine.

As reported ReutersMonday (27/6/2022), the Kremlin correspondent for Russian state television, Russia 1Pavel Zarubin revealed that Putin will visit Tajikistan and Turkmenistan this week and then meet Jokowi for talks in Moscow.

It said that in Dushanbe, the capital of Tajikistan, Putin will meet President Imomali Rakhmon, who is a close ally of Russia and the longest-serving ruler of a former Soviet state.

Later in Ashgabat, the capital of Turkmenistan, Putin will attend a summit of the Caspian countries. Zarubin added that the leaders of Azerbaijan, Kazakhstan, Iran and Turkmenistan would attend the meeting.

Russian news agency reports, RIAciting the chairman of the Upper House of the Russian Parliament as saying that Putin also plans to visit the Belarusian city of Grodno on June 30 and July 1 to attend a forum with Belarusian President Alexander Lukashenko.

Putin was last known to have made an overseas visit to Beijing in early February, where he and Chinese President Xi Jinping revealed a deal of “unlimited” friendship hours before the pair attended the opening ceremony of the Winter Olympics.
