MOSCOW – President Vladimir Putin emphasized that Ukraine should not have the ability to target Russia’s border areas.

Putin on Monday (30/1/2023) added, this is the mission of the Ministry of Defense (Kemhan) in Moscow.

His comments came a day after Ukrainian shelling occurred near a pipeline in the Bryansk Region, and amid rumors the US was preparing to deliver long-range projectiles to Kiev.

“Of course, the priority mission is eliminating the possibility of an attack, but that is a military task,” Putin said during a video conference on infrastructure work in the border regions of Belgorod, Bryansk and Kursk, as well as Crimea.

“About 3,700 residents of border villages in the Belgorod Region have been displaced as a result of Ukrainian artillery fire,” Deputy Prime Minister Marat Khusnullin told the meeting.

He added, “The government has set aside funds to provide them with housing and everything they need.”

Authorities in Belgorod and Bryansk recorded two Ukrainian artillery strikes each Tuesday.

In the Bryansk Region, one projectile fell into a field near the Druzhba (Friendship) pipeline substation. “Oil flows have not been affected, but pipeline staff are on high alert,” said a Transneft statement about the incident.
