Puriscal and Los Chiles will have new sports infrastructure

San José, Jan 10 (elmundo.cr) -The National Environmental Technical Secretariat (Setena) gave the environmental viability for the construction of two sports infrastructure projects in the cantons of Puriscal (San José) and Los Chiles (Alajuela), reported the Minister of Sports, Hernán Solano Venegas.

During his visit to Los Chiles this Saturday, the chief explained that it is the Puriscal del Bicentenario Athletic Track and the Los Chiles del Bicentenario Sports Gymnasium, whose construction phase is scheduled to begin this year, once the firm award of the projects.

Construction will be carried out on an inter-institutional basis in close collaboration with local cantonal governments and committees.

Minister Solano Venegas stressed that the works are a debt that will be settled with the rural communities of bringing infrastructure outside the Greater Metropolitan Area with the aim that, regardless of age, all the people living in these cantons can recreate, train and practice some discipline.

“It is from the rural communities where historically great athletes have come out who have brought us joy representing our country abroad and putting the name of Costa Rica high. Our commitment to develop these works for the benefit of our athletes “, expressed the leader.

Both works add up to a total investment of ₡ 900 million and are part of the National Policy of Sports, Recreation and Physical Activity (Ponadraf) 2020-2030, whose objective is to promote the development, health and social welfare of the population in the entire Costa Rican territory, he detailed.

Los Chiles del Bicentenario Sports Gym. This Saturday, Minister Solano Venegas, together with Deputy Luis Ramón Carranza, Mayor Jacobo Guillén and representatives of the Los Chiles Cantonal Sports Committee, inspected the area belonging to the Los Chiles sports center where the gym will be built.

The investment is ₵ 500 million contributed by the Costa Rican Institute of Sports and Recreation (Icoder).

It will have the regulatory measures for the practice and competition of various sports. In addition, it will have a security area, bleachers in one of the sectors, areas for the location of players, dressing rooms for two teams, dressing rooms for referees, public restrooms, ticket office, general warehouse and administrative office.

Among the external works, the functionality of the building as an enclosure, connections, pedestrian and vehicular accesses, among others, stand out.

The work will allow the practice and training of team sports such as volleyball, basketball, futsal, gymnastics, handball, among others.

Puriscal Bicentennial Athletic Track. The ₵ 500 million investment for the construction of the Puriscal del Bicentenario Athletic Track will offer athletes and the general population a means for training, competitions and physical activity.

It will be built in the Luis Ángel Calderón Stadium with resources from the Rural Development Institute (Inder) and the execution will be in charge of Icoder, the local government and the Cantonal Sports and Recreation Committee of Puriscal.

The construction of this track is a commitment assumed by the President of the Republic, Carlos Alvarado, with Andrea Vargas, Pan-American champion in 100-meter hurdles from Puriscal.
