Puerto Rican couple dies from COVID-19 in Florida



A couple of Puerto Ricans who resided about five years ago in the city of Oviedo, in Florida, died of the COVID-19, the newspaper reported Orlando Sentinel.

The victims, Sonia Goveo, 68, and Rubén Merced, 72, died just one week apart on April 9 and 16, respectively.

A niece of the couple, identified as Yaromil Ralph, highlighted the human quality of their uncles and related their last moments. “This is so tragic and heartbreaking for us.”he recognized.

Goveo, who was a native of Bayamon, died at AdventHealth Hospital in the city of Winter Park, while Merced, a veteran of the Caguas United States Army, died at the Veterans Administration Medical Center in Lake Nona.

The Orlando Sentinel highlighted that Goveo was the first to begin presenting symptoms of the disease, for which she was detained in early April.. On the same date, her son also became ill. Later, Merced also began to present symptoms associated with the virus, such as chest and stomach pain.

The couple’s remains were buried last week in the Cape Canaveral National Cemetery.

According to the publication, a son of the marriage also debated between life to death after being diagnosed by the virus, but was discharged after recovering.

The newspaper noted that another daughter of the couple, Elisabet Merced, visited her mother in hospital hours before she died under strict security protocols. He accepted, however, that he was unable to do the same with his father.
