Factorio will be released five weeks earlier than originally planned. The factory set-up simulation on September 25, 2020 should actually leave early access behind, but the immediate proximity to the start of sales of Cyberpunk 2077 (September 17, 2020) the developers don’t like it that much. The new date is August 14, 2020.
Statement from Wube Software (FFF-349): “The main reason for the change in release date is the launch of Cyberpunk 2077. In January of this year, CD Projekt Red announced a postponement of Cyberpunk 2077 release until September 17th – a week before Factorio 1.0 was released. We believe that any release near such a monumental game will have a negative impact, such as that everyone who plays and reports on cyberpunk will distract attention from other games, so we thought it best to either release it before or to postpone for quite a while after cyberpunk. Given these two options, we decided to move the release date forward. ”
Some changes and adjustments to the development process on the way to version 1.0 also helped advance the appointment. For example, the developers the “new campaign” canceled in January 2020 (FFF-331), the general improvements to the liquids postponed and many aspects of the user interface revision (FFF-348) trimmed. Otherwise, the developers are good things. They believe that the game is almost done and that is why they want to release it as soon as possible. Then they could think about “new things” faster.
