Public school teachers will continue their remote work until September 11

Public school teachers will continue their work remotely until at least September 11, reported the secretary of the Department of Education, Eligio Hernandez.

In a letter signed last Friday, but not released to the public until today by Twitter, Hernández indicated that teachers will be able to continue working from home in compliance with the most recent executive order of the governor Wanda Vazquez in relation to COVID-19.

The change voids the ED’s previous provision that teachers had to return in person to school campuses, even though students were taking courses remotely.

“Until September 11, according to the executive order, teachers will continue to work from their homes”, to “support educational management, teaching staff, support staff and directors must perform their functions and assist in the work, both school and for the families, “Hernández said on his Twitter account.

In the letter, the secretary states that “In these coming weeks, in distance mode, communication with each of the students must be maintained to guarantee, within the study alternatives, the development of academic skills”.

It is the third time that the DE extends the remote work period of teachers.

Hernández established September 11 as the face-to-face return date for teachers, despite the governor saying in her most recent message on COVID-19 that face-to-face classes for students were suspended until further notice, not to mention on September 17 that the DE had as the projected date.
