public inquiry for the project of the future multimodal transport hub at Melun station

The file relating to the creation of a multimodal transport hub within Melun station will be the subject of a public inquiry by early 2022.

The municipal council of Melun (Seine-et-Marne) has just given the green light to the development project of a future multimodal transport hub within the city’s train station. This operation, estimated at 160 M €, will be submitted to a public inquiry by February and will run until April 2022. An investigation commissioner will be present to answer questions and collect suggestions from the public. If the declaration of public utility is adopted in the second half of 2022, the work could begin in 2023 and end in 2028, at the latest in 2030. By this time, the station will be able to accommodate more than 20 million people. users per year, compared to 16 million to date.

The operation provides for an accessible hub adapted to the urban development of the district and the agglomeration. The works consist, among other things, in enlarging and raising the platforms, as well as creating passenger shelters and an entrance overlooking the taxi rank. Added to this is the development of an underground passage with new methods of access to the platforms. This route will be open to everyone and will allow pedestrians to connect the north and south of Melun. In order to make the station also accessible to people with reduced mobility, strollers and heavy loads, each of the platform accesses will be equipped with at least one lift.
