PSV Misses Out on Brazilian Talent Carmo to CSKA Moscow
PSV Eindhoven actively explored the South American transfer market last summer, alongside their focus on European clubs, targeting promising talent in Brazil. While pursuing Corinthians’ young forward Bidon, PSV also engaged in negotiations with São Paulo FC for highly-rated attacker Henrique Carmo.
Discussions with Corinthians stalled quickly, as the Brazilian club, burdened by significant debt, demanded a €15 million fee for Bidon – exceeding PSV’s valuation of €10 million.Simultaneously, PSV appeared close to securing Carmo, even reaching a tentative agreement on a loan deal with São Paulo FC.However, the deal unexpectedly collapsed when São Paulo FC abruptly withdrew from negotiations. This shift appears to be linked to the emergence of interest from Russian clubs.
While PSV’s offer reportedly reached €8 million, CSKA Moscow ultimately secured Carmo’s signature for around €7 million, including potential bonuses. The 18-year-old Brazilian, considered a top prospect in his home country, will now continue his growth in Russia.
the transfer highlights a growing trend of Russian clubs increasing their financial presence in the international transfer market, often exceeding offers from their European counterparts. This ultimately led PSV to miss out on a promising young talent, despite appearing to be on the verge of a deal. The situation underscores the complexities of international transfers and the increasing competition for emerging stars.
