PSSI Afraid of Naturalization Kevin Diks?

Jakarta

PSSI refuse to naturalize Fiorentina defenders Kevin diks for fear of bumping into the FIFA Statute. In fact, there was a loosening of the rules after FIFA made amendments.

FIFA recently held the 70th Congress on 18 September. One of the topics discussed was the amendment to the FIFA Statute regarding the naturalization of players.

Now, the rules for naturalization of players to transfer of player associations are not as strict as before. Kevin Diks, who has the Bakarbessy clan, is even confirmed to be able to strengthen the Indonesian national team if PSSI wants to call him.

As for PSSI recently released a statement that they are reluctant to summon Kevin Diks for fear that the fate that befell Ezra Walian will be repeated. In addition, PSSI reasoned that Kevin Diks was 23 years old, so he could not appear on 2021 U-20 World Cup.

“The age that we cannot possibly include in the squad for the Indonesian national team at the 2021 World Cup. Because we are looking for players who are 18 and 19 years old,” said PSSI Acting Secretary General Yunus Nusi in a federation release.

“This is what Ezra Walian has experienced so that he failed to play Asian Cup 2020 Qualification matches. Ezra cannot strengthen Indonesia because he has played in the Dutch national team at youth level in the official UEFA competition,” he explained.

Ezra Walian until now it has been banned from appearing to strengthen the Indonesian National Team because of the FIFA Statute rules in Article 5 paragraph 2 which are described in Article 8 paragraph 1 a.

“The player has never played (fully or partly) in an official international competition with level ‘A’ with his current association country, and at the time of full or partial appearance in an official international tournament with his current national team, the player already has (passport). citizenship for the new team he wants to strengthen, “reads the fragment of Article 8 paragraph 1a which explains the qualifications for the transfer of nationality of players.

The above rules hindered Ezra Walian’s desire to appear in the 2020 U-23 Asian Cup Qualification in 2018. The reason is that the Dutch Football Federation (KNVB) sent a memorandum to the AFC saying that Ezra had appeared in the 2014 U-17 European Cup Qualification with the U-17 Netherlands national team.

FIFA then granted the wishes of the KNVB because Ezra was proven to have played for the Dutch national team in the group as regulated in Article 8 paragraph 1a of the FIFA Statute. Ezra also did not have an Indonesian passport while he was still strengthening the Dutch national team so that when he strengthened Indonesia he had a naturalized status.

Now, after the regulation is amended, Kevin Diks will not suffer the same fate as Ezra Walian. Even though he played in the 2018 U-21 European Cup, as noted by Soccerway, the former Feyenoord was still able to strengthen the Indonesian national team.

In the latest rules, players can still defend a new country as long as when the player in his last appearance with the old national team is not yet 21 years old. In addition, his last appearance with the old national team must have passed three years.

Yunus Nusi’s statement above who is afraid to naturalize Kevin diks is referring to the old status of FIFA. In fact, a total of 211 FIFA members participated in the FIFA Congress last September 18. PSSI don’t join the FIFA Congress or just want to naturalize players for the U-20 World Cup?
