PSG manager talks poker with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe

Paris Saint-Germain is working hard to retain its superstars Neymar and Kylian Mbappe for the long term. However, the French serial champions will not respond to every request.

In times of the corona pandemic, clubs like Paris Saint-Germain also have to tighten their belts. Not a good omen per se to successfully exit the contract negotiations with Neymar and Kylian Mbappe, whose contracts will end in 2022.

“I hope that the players are convinced that they are in the right place for a top-class and ambitious player. We will not beg for them to stay,” said PSG sporting director Leonardo at FRANCE FOOTBALL, only to a certain extent wanting to go financial level.

One thing is already clear: The desired extensions will be a feat of strength. Neymar is to be provided with around 37 million euros in Paris. Superstar colleague Mbappe earns significantly less with around 17.5 million euros. PSG is offering a hefty salary increase in the event that the contract is extended.

Leonardo makes it clear that both must find a match between “their wishes, their demands and our means and expectations,” as the Paris chief squad planner put it. “If a player likes the club he’ll stay. Those who really want to stay will do so. We’re in contact and I’m confident.”

While Neymar is supposed to signal a willingness to commit to PSG in the long term, this intention has not yet been heard from Mbappe’s direction. Real Madrid should show great interest in the reigning soccer world champion.
