On Monday, the CIES Football Observatory published the ranking of the most expensive squads in Europe according to the total investment made to build them. And Paris Saint-Germain occupies 2nd place behind the untouchable Manchester City.
PSG have invested a lot for their attack.
During the last summer transfer window, Paris Saint-Germain was rather wise. With the exception of the 50 million euros invested to definitively recruit the striker Mauro Icardi, the club of the capital has only strengthened with loans.
Limited by the health crisis linked to Covid-19 during this transfer period, the reigning French champion has however spent a lot in the past. And this Monday, the CIES Football Observatory published a ranking of the most expensive squads in Europe based on the total investment made to build them.
PSG 2nd behind Manchester City
And unsurprisingly, PSG is therefore very high in this ranking, 2nd place, with an investment of 888 million euros. In this overall amount, the investments made by Parisians for the recruitments of Neymar (€ 222 M) and Kylian Mbapp (€ 180 M) represent almost 50%!
Note that compared to last year, with the many departures at the end of the contract, the formation of Ligue 1 recorded a decrease: -25 million euros. At the top of this ranking, we obviously find Manchester City (1.036 billion euros), which has further increased after spending this summer (+22 million euros). In the rest of the Top 5, the European leaders are ranked in the following order: Manchester United (844 million euros), FC Barcelona (826 million euros) and Chelsea (763 million euros).
Bayern only 15th
In addition to a real domination of the Premier League (6/10), we see in this Top 10 the absence of Bayern Munich, the recent winner of the Champions League. Indeed, the reigning German champion occupies only 15th position with 408 million euros spent to assemble his current workforce. A sign of the excellent functioning of Bayern.
