The GDC 2020 edition will start on March 16, 2020 at San Francisco. This meeting welcoming developers from all over the world is one of the biggest events in the video game industry. Annual meeting for 4 days and which, this year, is particularly expected (planned release of PS5 and Xbox Series X). This new generation of consoles represents a great opportunity for studios to renew themselves and create more. However, some will have to make a choice, and therefore favor one platform over another. A survey was therefore done with the developers to find out their preferences and here are the trends that emerge from the most popular to the least good:
- PC: 50%
- PS5: 38%
- Switch: 37%
- Xbox Series X: 25%
- PS4 / PS4 Pro: 18%
The PC is therefore the platform that most interests video game studios. On the side of the consoles, the SP5 glean first place. Big disappointment for Microsoft behind the Switch of Nintendo. However, we remember the ordeal for the different studios to develop their games at times of PS3 (the Devkit was far too heavy and overheated). But in recent years, Sony takes precedence over Microsoft (The head of Xbox Studios also highlighted the good work of Sony). Why ? Difficult to answer that. Sony has more exclusives than Microsoft and the affect of some developers for the playstation perhaps could play a role. See you at the end of 2020 to judge!
