Sony too Phase Out Key PS4 Services in 2026
NEW YORK – November 21,2025 – Sony Interactive Entertainment is preparing to discontinue several core services for the PlayStation 4 console, signaling a move to fully focus advancement on the PS5 and future generations. The changes, slated to take effect for all games submitted for release after Spring 2026, were detailed in documentation obtained by Insider Gaming.
The impacted services include the activity Feed Web API, Title Small Storage (TSS), Title User Storage (TUS), Users and Profiles, Word filters, and the Shared Media Web API. According to the report, these features “are designed to provide a more unified and scalable foundation across console generations.”
This decision comes as the PS5 approaches its fifth anniversary and continues to outperform previous PlayStation consoles in sales. Despite the PS5 being playstation’s most successful generation overall, the PS4 has maintained a meaningful user base thanks to continued software support and a more accessible price point.
the close alignment between the PS4 and PS5 generations, with frequent cross-generation releases, is expected to continue with the eventual launch of the PS6, which will likely see simultaneous releases on both PS5 and the new console.
Sony’s move suggests an effort to consolidate resources and encourage the remaining PS4 users to upgrade to the PS5.The company has not commented beyond the documentation cited by Insider Gaming.
