PS 5 and game designers: dilemmas by 50,000 fans

PlayStation 5 and critical fans cause headaches.

That fans are eagerly looking forward to the launch of the PlayStation 5 is of course no longer a secret, if only because of the many rumors about the launch date. However, it appears that fans are causing headaches for Sony and game developers. A recent poll from Mortal Kombat CEO Ed Boon makes this clear. He simply asked his fans which features they find most important for the PlayStation 5.

The results of his internet poll, to which more than 50,000 fans responded, leave nothing to be desired.

Now the answers to the questions are of course just as good for the Xbox Series X as for the PlayStation 5, but much more is being published about the Sony console. That is why we look at how the demands of fans cause headaches for Sony’s management and various game developers.

Not surprisingly the fans find the price the most important. Let Sony now experience a number of problems in that area (among other things due to the Corona virus). As we reported earlier, Sony would even consider the loss consoles to market.

The second decision factor is the possibility of continuing to play games from the current consoles. Both parties are focused on this and both Microsoft and Sony seem to be taking this very seriously. For example, additional additions for PlayStation 5 (such as the back buttons, see image) are released for the PlayStation 4 controllers.

The next wish is to have better graphic representation. That sounds logical and with a possibility to play in 8K resolution, Sony seems to have tackled this problem for the PS5. According to game developers, that is not true. This is how the developer of Gran Turismo that for the best effect of 8K games one should also have 8K screens and they are anything but standard. Another option is to (further) increase the capacity of graphic cards, but that leads to more costs.

He therefore argues for a substantial increase in the frame rate (the number of images per second). Where people now use 60 fps for many games, that should go to 120 fps or even 240 fps as standard. This again causes problems for people who want to play the games mobile. It turns out that 120 fps, which debuted at Samsung, is currently the maximum that can be achieved. Moreover, this option costs so much battery power that smartphone users can voluntarily opt for a lower fps.

Moreover, the owners of many games have doubts about whether they should release a separate update for PlayStation 4 this year or whether they should be ready for PlayStation 5 all of a sudden? Among others the team behind FIFA 2020/2021 struggles with this question. This dilemma is further complicated by the fact that there may be this year no new consoles at all will be sold.
