About 300 people, according to police, marched on Friday in Geneva to protest against the bicycle lanes installed by the canton. They aim to encourage people to abandon the car during this pandemic period.
The demonstrators crossed the Mont-Blanc bridge, preceded by a hundred bikers, who honked their horns and made their big cube roar under the incredulous gaze of passers-by. This demonstration of a new genre in Geneva was notably organized by the ex-Councilor of State Luc Barthassat.
Inveterate biker, the former magistrate attacked the policy of his successor to transport, Serge Dal Busco: “The TPG do not run anymore, taxis have to make endless detours, the deliverers can no longer work, it is the dog that is invading Geneva “.
Take into account all means of transport
The demonstrators did not appreciate the way in which the cycle lanes were traced. “They did it on the sly, overnight,” lamented PLR deputy Jean Romain. The elected representative said that he was not opposed to cycle paths, but he wanted a general plan of mobility taking into account the needs of all modes of transport.
Serge Dal Busco was the main target of the protesters’ wrath. The name of the magistrate was transformed into “Dal Bouchon”. Some have called for the resignation of the State Councilor, others, less extreme in their demand, have asked for respect for the Geneva Constitution and consultation on mobility.
