Prostate, breast and stomach cancer are the most frequent in the country – APESEG

In 2020, about 70 thousand new cases of cancer were detected in Peru.

Lima, February 4, 2021.- Today the Day of the Fight Against Cancer is commemorated worldwide, a date to keep in mind the importance of prevention in our health. According to the Global Cancer Observatory, in 2020 about 69,849 new cases of this disease were detected in the country, the most frequent being prostate (8,700), breast (6,860) and stomach (6,300) cancer.

This disease, which does not distinguish age or sex, can be prevented and if it is detected in time the chances of overcoming it are higher, so as a society we must have the habit of going to a health check-up at least once a year.

Cancer, in addition to imposing emotional stress on families, also implies a strong financial outlay for their treatment, so much so that a treatment for breast cancer – one of the three main types of cancer that occurs in the country – ranges from S / 11,000 and S / 540,000, depending on the evolution or stage of the disease.

Eduardo Chávez de Piérola, legal manager of the Peruvian Association of Insurance Companies – APESEG, pointed out that “every year there are more cases of cancer, so much so that the number of people who are coping with this disease worldwide amounted to more than 19 million in the world in 2020 ”.

The union representative added that, depending on the severity of the case, the amounts for cancer treatment are undoubtedly inaccessible for a large percentage of the population, which is why the importance of having an Oncology Insurance that allows preventive examinations and detection disease, timely access to treatment with significant probabilities of overcoming this disease.

TYPES OF ONCOLOGICAL INSURANCE

  • With medical coverage: This mainly covers surgeries, exams, chemotherapies, radiotherapies, biological therapy, medicine and hospital expenses.
