Prosecutors seek arrest warrant for former chairman Kim Seong-tae of ‘Ssangbangwool Group corruption allegation’

Suwon District Prosecutor’s Office 6th Criminal Division (Chief Prosecutor Kim Young-nam) requested an arrest warrant for Kim on charges of violating the Capital Market Act, embezzlement, breach of trust, giving bribes, violating the Foreign Exchange Management Act, and destroying evidence at 0:40 am on the same day. The warrant review for former chairman Kim is scheduled to begin at 2:30 p.m.

The prosecution conducted an intense investigation over two days against former chairman Kim, who entered the country on the 17th. At the same time as former Chairman Kim entered the country, he appointed Attorney Jae-Man Yoo, a former prosecutor who belongs to the Law Firm Square.

Prosecutors are known to have questioned former Chairman Kim on all charges, including allegations of embezzlement and breach of trust, bribery, remittance to North Korea, and payment of attorney fees.

The prosecution is known to have prepared dozens of questionnaires in advance for the investigation of former Chairman Kim. It is said that former chairman Kim participated in the investigation without refusing to make a statement or exercising the right to remain silent.

Kim’s major charges include breach of trust and embezzlement of 450 billion won, violation of the Capital Markets Act, including false disclosure of convertible bonds worth 20 billion won, suspicion of remittance to North Korea, bribery of former Gyeonggi vice-governor Lee Hwa-young, and Lee Jae-myeong, the representative of the Democratic Party of Korea.

Former chairman Kim was arrested at a golf course in Thailand on the 10th after continuing his life on the run for eight months after leaving the country in May of last year.
