The Prosecutor’s Office opened an ex officio investigation for animal abuse that would have been registered on the premises of the Manuka dairy company, in the commune of Puerto Octay.

The opening of the file was confirmed after the receipt of information that would account for alleged acts of animal abuse, as confirmed by the Chief Prosecutor of Río Negro, Daniel Alvarado.

In that sense, he indicated that proceedings are being carried out, warning that the advance dissemination of their details could affect the result of the same.


The facts, whose veracity is being investigated, are are linked to the protocols applied in the death of cattle.

The Manuka company was inserted in a judicial process, after videos reveal a massive slaughter of calves, which were later verified by the Public Ministry.

In this case, the prosecutor Leyla Chaín charged the former executive of the New Zealand capital company, Zachary Ward, with crime of animal abuse, after the defendant hit the calves on the head with hammers and injected them with hot oil, ending the life of 1,500 copies.

In the latter case, there is a process of extradition of Ward, after knowing the complaint fled Chile to New Zealand.
