Proposal to reactivate airports in Medellín remained in the air – Medellín – Colombia

“It is not yet time to let your guard down by opening airports. Life comes first.” With this specific response, the Mayor of Medellín, Daniel Quintero It did not endorse the proposal made by the companies in the air sector and Airplan, operator and administrator of the Olaya Herrera Airport, to initiate pilot plans in the commercial air passenger operation.

This request was made by means of a letter on June 25, in which these companies claim to have all the biosafety protocol ready to guarantee a safe operation.

These companies proposed a pilot plan with 10 national destinations, which would be towards the regional airports of Carepa, in Urabá; The Catfish and Caucasia, under Cauca; Puerto Berrío, Magdalena Medio, and Urrao, southwest of the Aburrá Valley. And, outside of Antioquia, flights would be made to Armenia, Pereira, Manizales, Montería and Tolú.

Faced with the refusal of the local president, the airlines requested a space to dialogue with Mayor Quintero to explain these protocols in person.

“We regret the announcement since the airline industry, in addition to being prepared with biosafety protocols, is an important driver of the local economy. We are prepared, with the required measures to reduce the risk of contagion of COVID-19 and ready to implement the Relevant actions.
