Promoting overseas Vietnamese resources for the country’s development

In an interview with the Vietnam News Agency (VNA), Deputy Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hiêu mentioned seven key tasks that will be implemented.

These are the government’s action plan on overseas Vietnamese affairs for 2021-2026; the strengthening of the great national union, the development of overseas resources in the service of national development; assistance for overseas Vietnamese in terms of legal status and life stability; supporting the teaching and learning of Vietnamese, while preserving the national cultural identity; strengthening information work for overseas Vietnamese; and the consolidation of the organizational apparatus.

Regarding the 2022 edition of the program “Xuân Quê huong” (Spring in the native land), reserved for Vietnamese residing abroad (Vietnamese pride), which will take place on the evening of January 22 (i.e. the 23e day of 12e lunar month of the year of the Ox) at the Hanoi Opera, with the participation of a large number of Vietnamese pride, Vice Foreign Minister Pham Quang Hieu, also chairman of the State Committee for Overseas Vietnamese Affairs, pointed out that it will be the biggest political, foreign and cultural activity at the beginning of 2022.

It is also an opportunity for Party and state leaders to listen to the thoughts and aspirations of the people and to honor the overseas Vietnamese collectives and individuals who have made great contributions to the Country.

This year’s event will include various activities including an incense offering and carp release ceremony, a ceremony to honor President Ho Chi Minh in his mausoleum and heroes who died for the Fatherland, a meeting between Vietnamese pride and senior leaders of the country, and an artistic program which will be broadcast live on the channels of the National Television of Vietnam (VTV).

Economically, despite the impacts of the COVID-19 crisis, remittances to Vietnam in 2021 are estimated at USD 12.5 billion, up 10% from 2020.

As for trade, hundreds of thousands of overseas Vietnamese businessmen have been actively involved in promoting import-export business.

Overseas Vietnamese scholars have offered many proposals and initiatives to the country in technology, artificial intelligence, innovative and creative entrepreneurship, pandemic control and economic model development.

In addition, in the context of the COVID-19 pandemic, the Vietnamese pride donated about 115 billion VND and medical equipment to support the country.
