Promising comeback by Jorge Lorenzo in Sepang

(Motorsport-Total.com) – Jorge Lorenzo’s return was the dominant theme on the final day of the Sepang shakedown test. After waiting for the first two days, Lorenzo got back on a Yamaha M1 on Tuesday for the first time since November 2016. The Spaniard’s lap times should give the fans courage and increase the chances of a racing comeback.

Lorenzo did a total of 46 laps on Tuesday. The clock stopped at 2: 00.506 minutes. Lorenzo thus missed his qualifying time from the Malaysia Grand Prix last year by just a fraction of a second.

Lorenzo will also take part in the regular Sepang test with top team regulars, which starts on Friday. The new Yamaha test pilot is expected to drive on two of the three days.

The 2020 Aprilia inspires Aleix Espargaro

The second good news of the day was Aleix Espargaro’s test with the 2020 Aprilia. With a 1: 59.622 round, the Spaniard finished second in the day’s ranking and a little later let his followers know that he is very satisfied with the new RS-GP.

“After 25 laps with the RS-GP2020, I can only say one thing: WOW! Thanks Aprilia for the hard work of the past six months. It will be a great year!” Writes Aleix Espargaro. Aprilia test pilot Bradley Smith was off duty on Tuesday. For this, Lorenzo Savadori gained further MotoGP experience with the 2019 Aprilia.

KTM gets the best time

KTM driver Pol Espargaro was the fastest on Tuesday. In the absence of Dani Pedrosa, the younger of the Espargaro brothers took the lead. The KTM factory pilot circled the Sepang International Circuit in 1: 59.444 minutes. However, Danilo Petrucci’s unofficial test best time from the previous year was missing by more than a second.

Honda factory driver Alex Marquez was missing on the final day of the shakedown test. The Spaniard had to travel to Jakarta due to the Honda presentation. HRC test pilot Stefan Bradl was the only Honda driver. On the RC213V of the German one saw again a modified aero fairing, which has a certain similarity to the casing of the Ducati Desmosedici.
