Prominent British epidemiologist ignores own rule by receiving mistress

One of the main British government advisers in the corona crisis has left because he did not follow the rules he had advised himself. Epidemiologist Neil Ferguson drew his conclusions after acknowledging an “error of judgment.”

He sent his (married) mistress against the advice, wrote The Telegraph. The British government explicitly advises that citizens not meet anyone outside their own household, including family or loved ones. Without drastic measures of this kind, Ferguson’s models predicted, 250,000 Britons could die.

The scientist regrets that he “undermined the distance rules” and says he thought he was immune after he tested positive for the coronavirus and spent two weeks at home with symptoms of Covid-19. It is still unclear to what extent patients become immune.

Ferguson is the second British advisor to leave the field for breaking his own rules. Early last month, Scottish government medical advisor Catherine Calderwood stepped down because she had traveled to her second home several times. British people with a holiday home often seek refuge there during this period, which is objected by the inhabitants in a number of places.
