Prohibition of abortion is nonsense if the father is not also held accountable – Opinions – News

It is clear that all these promotions were intended only for the next mother. Condemning him. The father is never in this debate. He does not participate and does not exist. I cannot understand this strangeness. How so? A woman with a child is cared for by two people – a man and a woman, but should she be solely responsible for the consequences of intimacy? Where is the father? Why doesn’t he have to take responsibility? Now that the Polish Parliament is once again starting to “cut the buttons” and ban Poles from having an abortion, there is still no talk of a father’s responsibility to the unborn child. Is it chicken blindness that prevents a child from being born by two adults, not just one person? Is it the stubborn Puritan difficulty in believing that a man is never responsible for anything. Just “sow your seed” where and how you want, but only the woman is responsible for the consequences? Is that fair? No, it is neither fair, nor just, nor virtuous.

In recent weeks, demonstrations have taken place in several Polish cities against the entry into force of the new law. During the pandemic, the Polish Parliament, which, as we know, has long been dominated by nationalist and conservative forces, voted in favor of two strange proposals. The first was a ban on abortion for women, and the second was a ban on teaching children and young people about human sexual relations. So to say: a) everyone must give birth at all costs, because a woman’s body does not belong to herself, but to the state; b) instead of real life, we offer children a fairy tale that a stork brings the children and puts them in a cabbage bed.

Understandably, the two issues are related – if girls and boys do not know how children are born, then the messes will not have to wait long. As it was not possible to gather at rallies during the pandemic, thousands of activists launched an online protest in the spring using instant tags #ProtestAtHome or #StrajkKobiet (women’s strike) on social media. Around 700,000 signatures were collected online in protest of the law’s amendments. Activists made no secret of their outrage at the Conservative government’s use of the pandemic situation to push through laws and regulations that are unacceptable to the general public.

At present, in Poland, a woman is only allowed to have an abortion if she has been raped, if the child is ill, or if the birth could endanger the mother’s health and life. The new law will also prohibit abortion in the case of a sick fetus, and currently 98% of abortions in Poland are performed mainly because the examination of a pregnant woman reveals fetal defects or diseases. It will no longer be possible to do so.

Why men like to ban rather than be responsible for the consequences

I cannot imagine any other health problem in which politicians of the opposite sex would behave as passionately as on the issue of abortion. The leading instructors, condemners and ideologues in this field tend to be men who have never conceived, given birth or had an abortion. One would think that the passion of male politicians for abortion is due to the search for the child’s father? In an effort to establish rules and laws that the father of the unborn child should take responsibility not only for supporting his or her next baby’s material, but also for certain moral and ethical responsibilities and practical assistance in dealing with the new mother (after the child is born). No, there is no such proposal anywhere. That is why there is no responsibility on the part of men. Would such laws lead to polygamy? Yes, we have also had politicians in Latvia who have even supported polygamy with their example. But in that case, you have to start talking
